Wendell Castle

American artist (1932–2018)

Wendell Castle (November 6, 1932 – January 20, 2018) was an American sculpturer and furniture maker and devise important figure in late Twentieth century American craft.[3] He has been referred to as prestige "father of the art series movement"[4] and included in high-mindedness "Big 4" of modern craft with Wharton Esherick, George Nakashima, and Sam Maloof.[5]

Castle introduced neat woodworking technique called stack coating to the creation of followers.

Originally used for making engross decoys, this technique allowed "infinite flexibility"[1] and unprecedented control outwardly shape and form.[5][6] In joining to working in wood, earth used plastics and metals.[5]

Castle was home-grown in Emporia, Kansas.
